Do the Write Thing

My Niece

Olendia Sweares

I come from a very large family but I don't have often contact with all of them. But the important thing is that I have a good relationship with all of them except one of my sisters. Like in many families, some of the members of my family are my favorites and one of them is my niece, Alice.

She is twelve years younger than me. I was a teen when she was born. I don't remember very well when she was a baby, but I do remember that she was good. I remember her parents and her brother when they went to live in a place far away from our house, and I didn't see her for a couple of years. Then my sister separated from her father and she and her brother came to live in my parents; house with us. She liked to talk and used to answer fast and precise and that made her sound very funny sometimes. Soon she and her brother started calling my father dad like we usually did. Now my brothers and sisters consider them the extension of the family. A few years later they went to live in their own house.

Many things happened after this till I knew she was going to get married. About two years later she started working for me in my
workshop.

They were a very good couple. I remember when she got pregnant the first time. She was so happy and excited. It was very difficult for her to have this baby but finally everything was OK. About six years later she had the second one, a baby girl. At that time the doctors paid more attention to her and things were a little better.

When this baby was only sixteen months old, her husband got sick and died. It was very hard for my whole family because we loved him a lot. He was as special as my niece is. At the moment doctors did not have a cause for his death, but about two months later they said it was a disease called "Wilson". Anyway, my niece got so depressed for the next two years, and we did not know what to do. One day her younger sister told me to push her a little with work and that was kind of a good idea. She started to feel better.

She has been always the most important person in my business. She is the kind of person that keeps everybody busy and happy because she is very smart and always has the right answer for everything.

Now her daughter is seven years old and she is the same as her mother was when she was a kid. Her son is more like his father. Quiet and very mature as he used to be.

My niece, hers kids, another niece who is nine years old, "my God daughter" and my dad are the people that I miss the most.
