Do the Write Thing

My Childhood

I remember my childhood as being very happy. Some things that I remember all the time are my extended family, my school experiences, and the games I played with friends. I also remember when the elder members of my family taught me how to do the things that were new for me, like tie my shoes, wash clothes, etc. That was good, because it formed my self-discipline. All the memories that I have of my family are of everybody together.

One of my best memories with my family was when we all went together to Masin, the city where my mother grew up. I will never forget the cows, goats, lambs, pigs, chickens, roosters, horses, and other animals. Also, I can still taste the fruits and all the food that we had there, like potatoes, sweet potatoes, yuca, sugar cane, nispero, avocados, and chirimoya. I was 6 years old, and the memories still feel like yesterday.

About kids' games, there were a lot. I remember, however, when one day somebody suggested we wake up early to go out to run and "do exercise". Everybody woke up that day, but nobody ran. Instead, we went to a farm to grab some corn and carrots. Then we started to run.

At school, it was very good for me to change teachers in fifth grade. My first teacher was my aunt, and when I moved to a new class, my teacher was a very strong and disciplined man. I remember once when all the boys in the class, during the break, made a mess in the yard. All of us were punished with a belt slapped on our palms. I will never forget him. He was a good man.
