Bulgaria's Thracian Treasures

I read in a magazine that there is going to be exhibition at the National Archeological Museum. There is going to be presented Thracian treasures. People will be able to see all of them at a specific place. I have read about them before but unfortunately never had a chance to see them until this day.

The things I saw were unbelievable. I could not believe my eyes. I still can not realize how these ancient people could develop such incredibly noticeable items using small and simple tools. I can not explain the amazing things I had seen at the Museum but I will try to tell you a part of what I had seen that very day.

The Thracians were the ancient people related to the Greeks. They were living in the area that today constitutes part of Bulgaria,
Greece, Turkey, the Republic of Macedonia and Serbia. The Thracians people were divided into a number of tribes. They were peaceful, and most of them were farmers. Thracians were one of the tribes that made the Bulgarian country.

Most of the Thracians treasures are from 4th and early 3rd century B.C.

One of them was found in 1925 north of Bulgaria's capital Sofia. It consists of 13 ritual vessels and it is the biggest gold treasure ever discovered in Bulgaria. The vessels are made of pure gold with natural silver, copper, and iron alloys. It weight is 20 kg. The unusual shapes of the vessels made the archeologists think that the Thracian kings used them for religious rituals. Today it is kept in the National Archeological Museum.

The other treasure was discovered in the small village in the present-day northwest part of Bulgaria. As with most great discoveries it was found accidentally during excavation works. Buried originally in two sacks, it consists of 165 silvers vessels and cups, from the late 5th first half of the 4th century B.C. Many of the vessels are decorated with mythological scenes, the image of Thracian's goddess and fantastic animals.

The 3rd treasure was discovered in central Bulgaria, and it is the most popular gold treasure discovered so far. It is made of pure gold with a total weight of 6 kg. It consists of a royal set to be used during feasts. It is of 9 vessels original shapes and ornaments.

The Thracians treasures have long evoked the admiration of the entire word and they have been displayed in a number of exhibitions all over the world. Some of them are extremely important and they provide unique information about ancient art.
