Do the Write Thing

To Those Who Gave Me Life

Gloria

I want to write this to Antonio and Amelia, my parents because I feel a necessity at this moment to talk about them.

Almost sixty years ago my dad met my mom in a rainforest town in my country. My father was 30 years old, tall and handsome. My mother was 24 years old, small and beautiful. They were only friends at the beginning and they never imagined they would fall in love. After two years they got married and had six children.

They lived an intensive life because my dad was a police man and this job is very hard in my country. They always were traveling to different places. There was a tragedy when one brother died of tetanus when he was ten years old. My mom never forgot that.

I love and respect them. They taught me many good things: principles, love, respect for each other and love of God. They are an example of life for us.

Yesterday I felt very sad because I am a long distance from them. We had a conversation by phone and they told me: "Dear daughter, we are very sick and just are waiting for our death which will be soon". That word sounded terrible to me. I would like to be over there. Both had a surgery for cancer.
