On August 31st, I received good news and bad news.
The good news was
that I was accepted to the GED class and I would be going to orientation
that day. I was very excited and happy to go back to school.
The bad news was that I had to cancel orientation because my doctor
wanted to meet with me on the 31st to give me the result of my
mammogram. I was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer. At first
I
didn't realize the danger I was in. I was upset at first. Then
I took
the news like nothing had changed. I always think to myself that "no
matter what, life goes on".
My first chemotherapy went well. I didn't feel
any different so, I was
relieved and thought my life wouldn't change. But as time went
by, and I
had my third round of chemo, I was very weak, sick and frustrated.
My
hair fell out completely. I had mouth sores that couldn't let
me eat or
taste my food and I had trouble swallowing.
I am now taking my fourth chemo and have four more left before
I have to
go for surgery.
I am very thankful to my dear family, God, and
close friends who are
helping through my sickness, disappointments, and frustration.
I am also
happy and grateful to my teacher and classmates who help me stay
positive and focused in school, so I can get my GED. |
