Going Back to Slow Food

Aki

You must miss the taste of what your mother used to make. So am I. In super markets there are many quick-meals flooding the frozen food department. Many kinds of soup placed on shelves are ready to eat. More or less than half an hour driving may take you to a wonderful restaurant. However, they are never the taste that you really want. In my country, Japan, "Slow Food" is the key word for people who are trying to change their eating habit. They recommend going back to the old days when their mother used to make dinner while taking a long time. "Slow Food" is important in health and food education.

My mother used to make "miso soup' every day considering our health. It is said that drinking a cup of miso soup a day reduces the risk of high blood pressure. I can easily remember mama's food. Almost all of them are healthy and well balanced. She planned our meals while taking care of our nutrition.

A serious problem is that the number of children who have a dull sense of taste is increasing because of "Fast Food." Their parents buy already cooked meals and do not care about what their children eat. Also some children love snacks and eat them between meals. So, they cannot have meals on set time. Those children will not be able to have an interest in eating for their health.

"Slow Food" should be reconsidered at home. Eating food slowly while enjoying conversations over the table is necessary for family. Taking time for preparing meals using many kinds of ingredients is important for your health. We want to carry on mama's tasty food to the next generations.
