Do the Write Thing

Looking for Freedom

In 1985 I escaped from Laos because there was communism. At that time, a lot of people tried to escape to get freedom. I was at a refugee camp for two years. Life over there was a hardship and a torment for me and for other people. My ambition was to come to the United Stated of America to start a new life.

I got lucky when I came to the U. S. A. I got good family to sponsor me to come over here. When I came to this country, I missed my family and friends very much. I felt alone and dejected until I went to English classes to learn to write and speak. At that time I didn't speak or write at all. I appreciated having a good teacher helping me to learn new things every day.

I stopped going to classes. I got married and had three children. I also worked for many years. I am back to school again, and I hope it is not too late for me to go college some day soon.
