My name is William Sargent. I am a student at the Worcester Adult
Learning Center in the ABE class. I am here to learn to read, write
and
learn math. I came from rural West Virginia. I went to school for
a
while, but the teachers never taught me how to read and write. When
I
was a little boy I was hit in the head with a brick and had a
concussion. This accident caused me to have difficulty learning.
I
started in Kathy McKee's ABE class a few years ago and was learning
how
to read, but I had to leave to go back to West Virginia and didn't
come
back to school until this year. I was glad to see that I remembered
a
lot of what I learned. I still have a ways to go, but I am working
very
hard and glad to be back to school.
I got married to Judy three years ago. We just had a new baby girl,
Josephine. I love my girl very much and my wife, too. Having a baby
makes it difficult to always get to school, but we really make the
effort. We live with my mother and help her; she had a heart attack
5
years ago. I also I take my mom shopping and to her doctor's
appointments. She has emphysema. She helps us by taking care of
Josephine while we go to school. Judy is in my class also.
I would love to learn how to read well enough to get my GED. I know
it
will be a while but I enjoy reading at each level that I am at.
I want to be a good father and help Josephine have a good education
I had surgery on my foot recently. I have high blood pressure. I
have to
start taking care of myself, for myself and my wife and my baby.
Kathy
is teaching us nutrition information. I hope it works.
