Do the Write Thing

My Mother

J.S.

My mom was so good to me when I was little. She had some bad things happen to her but she still was a good mother. She was an alcoholic. She had to take care of seven kids.

Some of us were mad and didn't want to do anything, but all kids are like that. Later four of us were taken away from our home and put in foster homes, and the only time we got to see each other was at DSS. This was very hard, we wanted to go home with my mom and dad but we couldn't, so we stayed where we were. We never like being separated. Finally we got to go home. My mom and dad were living in Worcester and we got to go there with them. We like it. We were living in the "V alley". We moved quite a bit. We got to move into a good home. We didn't live there long. Mom and us kids were living in a hotel for two months. We left there and moved in with another family. At first I didn't like it but we liked living with my mom. So many moves!

As I got older I had to take care of my mom, because she was sick and later had cancer. I was her caretaker. It was hard at first but I had to do it. I was her "Angel of Light." She died peacefully. I am happy now. I have a husband who loves me, and a baby, Josephine. We live with my mother-in-law and she is very nice to me. She is a good mother-in-law.

I am back at school now trying to improve my reading, writing and math.

I do miss my mom a lot. I have hope that someday I will learn to take care of my baby as well as my mom did with me.
