Do the Write Thing

A New Beginning

When I arrived in the U.S.A, everything was novelty to me. I came from Brazil to Boston in September 2002. My daughter stayed in Brazil. Her name is Lais. She is 15 years old. In January 2006 she came to visit me, but then she went back to Brazil after 25 days. My first job over here was in McDonald 's in Webster, MA. It was very difficult because I spoke only hi and bye in English, but everybody over here helped me in all situation and difficulties. The name of my first manager was Mary. She is a nice person. I have to say thanks to Mary for everything. I worked in the kitchen of McDonald's. I made fried chicken, hamburger, french fries and more. Sometimes I needed to go in to the freezer to get some frozen food. I felt bad because in the freezer it was very cold and in the kitchen it was very hot. Sometimes it made me sick. I worked 6 days a week and 50 hours a week including weekends. I always started at 5 AM and finished at 4 PM. My day off was every Monday.

I worked in McDonald's from 2002 to 2003. I miss everybody there, but I left this job to look for another job in Worcester, MA near my house. Webster was too far from my home, 20 miles or 30 minutes driving. This was very important for my experience because after this I got another job to make more money.

I have been living in the U.S.A since 2002, and I hope to learn and speak more English, but mostly to get a better job.
