Do the Write Thing

How I Have Changed

Mr. Yang

I have been in the United States for about five months. Five months is a very short time. In five months I have changed so much. First, I can speak English. Most Korean students studied grammar, reading, and listening, so they can read books and understand English. But most of them can't speak English. They are scared to speak English, I think. I conquered my fear of English.

Second, I can live by myself. Before, I liked being with my friends. At that time, I thought, "This is everything." But now I don't have any real friends here. Sometimes I think about Korea, and want to go there. Most of the time I can control my thinking.

Third, my views have expanded. Many people say that traveling helps your sight. If I didn't gain experience, my views would be narrow. While living in the USA I went many places. So my understanding of the world is really big.

Before, my life in Korea was just for me. I didn't think about what was good, what was wrong. But now I can think about what was good or wrong in Korea. In addition, now I am always thinking about my future. Until now, I ran the regular course. I only saw the past. Most Koreans decide only about the university. By being here, now I have the destination for my life.

I'll always think that my time in the USA made my future better. Being here has made me live in the present.
