Growing up in Morocco

Abdelkrim Serbouti

I grew up in Rabat, it is good city. I was the youngest of five brothers. We lived in a big house in the city. We always stayed in my country growing up.

I started school when I was seven years old. I used to walk to school with my friends. The classes at our school were large, usually with 60 students. Boys and girls attended the same classes; also boys and girls sat together. We wore regular clothes.

In high school, I used to walk to school. We attended classes in the morning from 8:00 to 12:00 and from 2:00 to 4:00. We studied Arabic, English, French, history, science, geography and math. Our teachers made us work very hard.

The school year began in September and ended in June. We played soccer a lot. I also helped my father when I had time. My mother was my best friend. I love her and my dad very much! I had a very nice life back home

Abdelkrim Serbouti is from Morocco.

“I have been in the US for three years. Currently, I am working at the Double Tree Hotel in Waltham and at Stop & Shop. I am single and I don’t have any plans on getting married soon. I have been attending the Power Program because I need to learn more English to find a better job and to help people that have recently arrived to the U.S. I want to help them to adapt to the new culture and overcome newcomers’ challenges. Hopefully, I will work hard and accomplish all my goals soon!
