1. Encourage your students to use their imagination. Have them incorporate
feelings and life experiences rather than just facts (please,
refer to the Creative Writing IdeasI)
2. One of the goals of this publication is to give adult learners a
voice in their communities. Suggest a variety of writing topics
to your students. Examples of submissions could be:
Special learning from personal experiences
Compose a song or make up new lyrics to an existing song
Personal opinion
A short 5-minute skit
Storyboard A rap
Poetry
Humor
Cartoon
3. We depend on you, the teacher as step 1 of the writing
process for DTWT: all writings will be published (in print
and online) as received. No editing will be done after pieces are
submitted
4. Please review your students’ writings by evaluating ideas
and content, organization, sentence structure, mechanics, word choice
and students’ voice.
5. Review your students’ writings for appropriateness
(see General information). Use your good judgment
on which topics/content
is appropriate or not.
6. Take the time to provide feedback to your students
before their writings are submitted. Students are
encouraged to peer edit and
evaluate their writings based on the same rubric
that the Editorial Board will use to select writings
for publication.
7. A workshop will be held on how to use the rubric
on November 3, 2005.

out the necessary forms electronically. Forms
