I Love Apples

When I was a child, I had curiosity about how apples came to the supermarket so shiny and beautiful. In school I asked my teacher. He brought me a book all about apples. I was so excited!

First the owner of the orchard contracts with migrant farm workers for help in picking the apples. It is important for them to spray and prune the trees so that they will be healthy. Between September and October the apples are ready for the harvest. There are so many! They have to be graded by color and size. Then they are packed in wooden boxes.

We can do many things with apples. For example, we can make apple juice, cider, jelly, and applesauce.

New England is a great place for apples!
