Technology Support Available at Central SABES

The Technology Support we provide is varied. We offer phone technical assistance, on-site visits, trainings and open labs.

The SMARTT (System for Managing Accountability and Results Through Technology) system is the State’s online system for all DOE funded ABE programs in the state. It includes a statewide ABE directory – searchable by town and SABES region to name a few of the search capabilities. http://acls.doemass.org/pAbeDirectoryHome

  • SMARTT New User trainings are offered a few times through the year based on demand. They are listed at http://www.sabes.org/calendar.htm. If you are unable to attend one of these trainings please call and we can make other arrangements.
  • SMARTT updates are available to programs that have particular questions or issues using SMARTT. Bring your information with you and work in a place away from all the phones and interruptions.
  • Cognos - Cognos is the reporting component for SMARTT. This 3rd party product allows programs to draw information from the data they have been collecting for SMARTT over the past four years.
  • Cognos Trainings –We provide trainings on using Cognos and developing reports and charts that can be used for program analysis and Community Planning. They are listed at http://www.sabes.org/calendar.htm. If you are unable to attend one of these trainings please call and we can make other arrangements.
  • Electronic List - The Central SABES Regional Technologist manages a statewide electronic list. Membership on the electronic list is open to anyone who has an interest in SMARTT and Technology. To join the electronic list go to http://lists.literacytent.org/mailman/listinfo/centralsmartt . As a member of the list you can look through the archives using a list logon and password.
  • Technology Trainings – These trainings are offered throughout the year. “In the past, we have held technology trainings with the following titles: : “What else can WORD do?” “Using POWERPOINT in your Program”, “How to Integrate Software into an ESOL/GED classroom”. We decide our offerings based on survey results. Feel free to participate in the survey.
  • Technology Plans – We have sample plans available and will assist in preparation of the plans for submission to DOE. All funded programs are required to submit Technology plans each year, projecting ahead two years.
  • Software Previewing Lab- Software packages are available for previewing in our lab. For the full listing please check the Software Resources.  If you would like to preview hardware or software please call ahead. We ask practitioners to review software, for a stipend. We share these reviews with other practitioners.
